Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology was integrated with the newly established Jeevendeep Shekshanik Sanstha Arts Commers and Science college Goveli Kalyan Dist Thane affiliated to University of Mumbai, Mumbai in 2004-2005, though it . It enjoys the reputation of a distinguished department to offer specialized academic in Sociology.
Scope of The Department
- In recent years the department has widened its area of interest with a more nuanced focus on themes including sociology of work, Sociology of informal sector, sociology of HRD, Gender and society, social theory, social research Sociology of Social Movements and sociology of marginalized community, issues of multiple exclusions among Tribal communities and an overall focus on Substantive dimensions of democracy and Citizenship. Prof. Bhagyshri G. Pawar works on gender and development, social development with a focus on informal sector.
- With Prof. Bhagyshri G. Pawar taking over leadership in June 2012 the Department is now focused to deliver much needed skills to students to meet challenges in the outer world. With Dr Sanjay S. Kamble, the department is now prepared to attract students from across India and abroad alongside students from affiliated colleges of University of Mumbai and other Universities in Maharashtra to create an inclusive and department milieu with state of the art infrastructure and intellectual resource.
Mission
- The Departmental of sociology mainly focused on the creating awareness among the students is renowned for its originality nationwide.
- It seeks to incorporate a wide range of subjects and issues under its purview, an approach which is highly conducive for interdisciplinary orientation in contemporary times.
Activities
The Department of Sociology conducted different activities and programme for academic, research and skill development activities under the academic year. The department mainly focused on the various programme for the students participation in academic and research progressive work process as multidimensional activeness:
- To Study Tours programme
- To filed work survey programme
- To conducting guest lecture for students
- To conducting research paper competition
- To organization of memorial lecture of Indian Sociology Founder Father Dr. G.S. Ghure and Dr. A.R Desai.
- To research workshop for developing research outlook of Students.

Course Outcome
After completing the Bachelor of Arts degree, students are able to
